Appearance: Legolas has long blonde hair, rarely tied but always pulled back from his face with some thin braids drawn behind pointy Elvin ears. He has blue eyes and pale unmarked skin; almost effeminate in appearance like most of his kind. He is tall, with a lean but strong form. He is usually decked in earthy colors, shades of brown and green and sometimes blue. Even though he is of royalty, he still most often wears clothes like that of a traveler, if not of lighter material, a tunic, trousers and boots. He owns an Elvin cloak of special material that keeps its wearer undetectable to those he does not wish to be seen from, held together at the neck by a silver and green brooch fashioned after a leaf.

Personality: Legolas is pleasant, well-mannered and just. As his people’s prince and prized warrior, he has the markings of a leader, but is a very good follower as well. More importantly however, he is also a good friend. He will not think twice of rushing into danger for those he considers dear. But while he can be hasty at times, this does not mean that he is unthinking. He has a wisdom that is born from experiences of his many years and he very rarely looses his calm and cool-headedness. Legolas is also rather prideful, somewhat stubborn, but not often arrogant and would back down from an argument if proven wrong.

Legolas is capable of ‘understanding’ trees in that he can read how they are ‘feeling’. He was born and raised inside a forest and, like most elves, has an almost intrinsic love for trees. However, since hearing the cry of the gulls, even the trees fail to give him solace.

Abilities/Strengths: Legolas is a skilled archer, one of the best his kind has to offer. Due to his elfin lineage, he also has very sharp senses, among which are eyes that can see several times farther than an average human’s can. He is invulnerable to most illnesses, as well as extreme weather conditions. Elves heal faster than humans as well. And they are immortals—not in the sense that they are invincible, but that they age very slowly and have infinitely long lives. Legolas is light-footed, capable of walking without sound and walking over snow without sinking into it, or making very distinct tracks. He can also walk on tightrope.

Weaknesses: Legolas suffers from sea-longing, a ‘sickness’ latent in his kind, wherein after hearing the cry of the seagulls they would long to sail across the sea to Valinor, the Blessed Realm. While being in econtra and away from the sea has pacified it somewhat, he still feels very much restless and often gets distracted, even and often at the most inconvenient of times. Along with this, there exists among elves sudden death brought about by unbearable grief. Legolas also has too high a pride that often gets him into arguments, which he would not back down from unless completely proved mistaken, as well as makes him refuse to show weakness or his injuries be treated where many would be able to bear witness.

History:

His name, ‘Legolas’, translates to ‘Green leaf’ and he is ‘Thraduilion’ or ‘son of Thranduil’. Thranduil is the elfin king of the Woodland Realm of Mirkwood, formerly Eryn Galen or Greenwood the Great. He is a prince, but whether or not he is the crown prince is still up to debate.

Little is known about Legolas before his noted participation in the War of the Ring. It can be assumed that he had spent most of his childhood in Mirkwood, occasionally traveling to Lothlorien and Rivendell. It may be in one of these visits that he met Aragorn, the exiled king of the humans, who eventually became his best friend.

When the Fellowship of the Ring was formed, Legolas was in Rivendell, as a messenger from his father to bring news of the escape of the creature named Gollum, who was left in their guard. He became part of the fellowship, the representative of his kind.

Inside the fellowship, he already knew and was good friends with Aragorn and is likely to have met Gandalf beforehand as well, the Mithrandir being a well-known and popular figure. He got along rather well with the hobbits, but, due to the long-standing rift between their kinds, was initially disdainful towards Gimli the dwarf. He eventually forms a friendship with him however that nearly rivals that between himself and Aragorn.

The last member of their fellowship, Boromir, the man from Gondor, died before Legolas could get very familiar with him. Boromir’s death marked the breaking of the fellowship, with the hobbits Frodo and Sam separating from the group while their friends Pippin and Merry were captured by the Uruk-Hai. Legolas chose to follow Aragorn with Gimli and the three of them together went after the captured hobbits. They got caught into and led battles that became instrumental for Middle Earth to win the War of the Ring. It was during this time that Legolas first heard the cry of the seagulls, and became afflicted with sea-longing.

Shortly after their victory, Aragorn was finally crowned king. Coupled with his coronation was his wedding to Arwen Evenstar, a half-elf who chose mortality in order to be with him. Everyone who was part of the war attended the celebration, including Legolas. Afterwards, as part of a promise to the other, the elfin prince went on a trip with Gimli. It was while they were inside Fangorn that Legolas was taken to econtra.
